The Estate

Serenity & Elegance

A touch of Provence among the hills of Somogy

Nestled among the gentle hills of Somogy, in the quiet cul-de-sac village of Polány just twenty minutes from the southern shores of Lake Balaton, lies the beautifully restored 3.5-hectare Babérliget estate.

Perched on the hilltop, the nineteenth-century manor house was once the residence of the noble Békeffy family.

Like many historic country houses in Hungary, the estate has lived through many different chapters of history. Over the decades, the building served as an agricultural cooperative centre, a village kindergarten and later a tourist hostel before beginning a new chapter in 2005.

It was then that its current owners, Bori and Gábor, discovered the property, captivated by its mature parkland and unique spirit of the place.

After several years of private enjoyment, they began the careful restoration of the estate, guided by a vision: to create an authentic atmosphere in this tiny village in Somogy, where the elegance and character of a bygone era could be harmoniously combined with the comforts of contemporary country living.

Thoughtfully selected furnishings, antique carpets, European and Oriental decorative pieces, together with works by contemporary Hungarian artists, have created interiors of a rare individuality — spaces where every detail tells a story.

A place that feels both refined and deeply personal, and one that guests are often reluctant to leave.
