Welcome to Babérliget
A hidden retreat among the gentle hills of Somogy, Babérliget is a place where nature, heritage and the art of slow living come together.
Here, time seems to move at a gentler pace. Surrounded by vineyards, gardens and mature trees, the estate invites guests to rediscover tranquillity, beauty and meaningful moments shared together.

The inspiration behind the name Babérliget comes from The Laurel Grove Book, the enchanting collection of essays by the Hungarian writer and philosopher Béla Hamvas. Even the titles of just a few chapters — The Psychology of Flower Picking, Flavours, Birdsong, The Kitchen Garden, Golden Days, Meditation on the Hilltop — immediately evoke the world Hamvas so beautifully describes: a gentle Mediterranean way of life shaped by contemplation, simple pleasures of everyday living and a profound appreciation of nature.
It is a world of unhurried moments and a deep sense of harmony. It is this atmosphere that inspired Babérliget, and it is this same feeling that welcomes every guest arriving at the estate.
Our own grove is home to vineyards, acacia woodland, fruit trees, lavender, beautiful flowers and fragrant herbs. The bay laurels that gave the estate its name were planted during the years of restoration and have since grown into magnificent species, becoming an integral part of the landscape.
From the main entrance of the house, a beautiful avenue of mature chestnut trees stretches northwards. Beneath their generous canopy, even on the hottest summer days, guests can find a cool and peaceful place to linger, rest and enjoy the quiet beauty of their surroundings.

Babérliget is far more than a countryside guesthouse. An atmosphere of timelessness, tranquillity and understated elegance surrounds the house, creating a place where the charm of the past meets the comforts of contemporary country living.
For over a decade, Babérliget has been one of the flagship properties of the Stylish Rural Hotels of Hungary, a community that brings together some of the country’s most dedicated representatives of authentic and thoughtful hospitality.
Guests arriving at Babérliget do not feel as though they have entered a traditional hotel, but rather an elegant private residence — a place where the character of the setting is expressed through architecture, nature and carefully preserved details.
